My Valentine's Day

As we did not technically have valentines, my friends and I declared V-Day a Singles Awareness Celebration. So last night consisted of copious amounts of alcohol, some Big Macs, and chick flicks. That's what I'm taaaalkin' about.

Lazy Sunday

Best Sunday I've had in a long time... sun streaming through the blinds, warm bed, Jack Johnson, someone to cuddle with. Life is good.

OH. MY. GOD. The new floral Litas by Jeffrey Campbell are spectacular. Honestly absolutely, totally dying for these.

The New Dougie?

I am learning this for sure... new move to bust out at shindigs? Yes please. For those of you wondering what a "cat daddy" is, I did some research. According to Urban Dictionary it's "a dude over fifty five who can still get it." Hahaaa. SOLID.

If You Forget Me

Pablo Neruda's poems are delicious.

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,

and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

-Pablo Neruda

Making a Difference

Dan Eldon was a photographer and activist in Africa. Throughout his short life, he kept extensive journals and completed large amounts of charity work. "On July 12, 1993, Dan and three of his colleagues raced across Mogadishu to cover the bombing of what was thought to be General Aideed’s headquarters. In the ensuing confusion, all four young men were beaten, clubbed and stoned to death by an angry mob furious about the death of over 50 of their friends, fathers, and brothers at the hands of U.S. and U.N. soldiers." Go to the Dan Eldon website to read more about his honestly amazing and tragic story.

People like Dan make me wish I could really make an impact in the world. I actually first heard about him in my high school art class when my teacher showed us the journals published by Dan's mother. The journals are fascinating layers of photos, musings, and sketches... basically scrapbooks but better. Dan accomplished so much during his brief time on earth. Truly inspirational.
